One question that I am frequently asked is «am I too old to learn Spanish?» or «am I too old to learn a foreign language?» The answer to that question is «no, you are never too old to learn a language.» But these are actually excuses for not a foreign language more than they are inquiries about learning a foreign language. Let me borrow a story from history that I hope will encourage you to eliminate your excuses and start learning your language of choice.

Did you know that a large portion of the English vocabulary we commonly use is derived from Latin? Well, this was a gift from the French, but the interesting thing is that Spanish is a latin language as well. So, what I am trying to say is that you can understand English grammar and language better when you start to learn Spanish.
It is said as well that learning the Greek language will save you from the trouble of memorizing scientific names of popular plants and what have yous that are needed in your work or school or even for home remedies. You can easily breeze through these words or understand what it means by merely looking at the latin words.
We could now be asked questions, such as what can a «two» be «seventeen» from. We would search through the array of chip expressions, and find our example expression, an answer «sixty-four.» We would have found the correct answer. But we did so not by understanding anything, but rather by looking through a collection of meaningless chip relationships. We had no idea of what we what talking about. We didn’t understand.

Only if we leave our comfort zone from time to time are we able to learn and develop. A new place, people you don’t know and things you are not used to, will help you to broad your horizons. Without even mentioning all these beautiful places that you will discover on day or weekend trips during your stay abroad.
Remember he would say, the Chaucer English was only 200 years ago and the new modern English we were learning was very new and still not being used a great deal outside of London. There were no formal books to collect and define the words so it was very easy to make up words that were needed to complete a sentence.
