Rehabilitation Psychology — How To Help An Alcoholic Enter Into Rehab

When she returned home, she went to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings regularly and she seemed to be committed to her new sobriety. K.J. was cautiously optimistic and tried to be very supportive of her. After several months, she quit going to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. 3 months later he came home late one evening and smelled alcohol on her breath. They had had a minor quarrel that morning. She denied drinking, but he knew she was lying. He came in to his appointment with me in a panic over her alcohol relapse.

One, I urge you to consider the length of period at the drug and alcohol rehabilitation center you want to attend. This is very important. Many people, because they’re in hurry enter into a drug rehab center that host them for three weeks. However, they often find themselves back in the problem. I discovered the length of stay at the center matters very much. If you stay for more than three months, you’re sure of getting off addiction. But anything less won’t work. Your body won’t be able to resist the temptation after leaving the center.

An effective drug rehab will address more than just withdrawal. A full detoxification needs to be done, but one thorough enough to remove stored toxins from the body. Residual drugs lodge in the tissues of the body and tiny bits of the drugs can be released even years after stopping drug use. If a drug rehab definition rehabilitation program is to work, these toxins must be flushed from the body. When a complete and effective detox is accomplished, the person feels brighter, more confident and has a much brighter outlook on life and the future. In some detox procedures, cravings can be extremely reduced or even eliminated.

Step 2 is to get in touch with a few of these alcohol treatment center programs. Get all of the information you can. Find out things like pricing, location, programs, duration, etc.

Tip:Angry — I get angry, you get angry, we all get angry. No problem there. The problem comes when anger is our most common emotion and our first response to most situations. Recent research has demonstrated that constant anger is not only not good for you, it can kill you.

Go to Alcoholics Anonymous, or a drug treatment center. None of this is easy; no one is pretending it is. Remember, though, that you caused very real pain and suffering to your spouse with your bad behavior. You will have to make up for that, as well. This will not be simple or easy either. It will take time to restore trust, affection and closeness between you.

On the other hand, if you want to get your wife back, and she is not interested in a reconciliation, your job will be much tougher. Not impossible, mind you. But all the work will fall on you. Decide how you will tackle your problems. If one of you was unfaithful, you can talk about it, perhaps with a marriage counselor, and try to get past it.
